Secret Santa Reminder

Just a friendly reminder to families that our Secret Santa ceremony and Shared lunch is next Thursday 13th December. Thanks to everyone who has sent in their gifts already - remember you've got till Monday 10th to send them to school please.

Secret Santa
             

Dear Parents / Caregivers,
It is fun to do a Secret Santa with the children in these last few days of school.
We will have a special gift giving ceremony on Thursday 13th December.   The children have already pulled names out of a hat, and know who they will be giving their presents to.  The class thought there should be a price cap on how much the presents cost, and decided that $10 was sufficient. Please encourage your child to keep their gift a secret.  The fun is in the anticipation—trying to guess what is in the parcel.
Please wrap it up and send it to school by Monday 10th December.  You can send it to school before the 10th, if you wish, as I will lock the presents away to keep them safe.
We would like to combine this with a special Christmas Shared Lunch, which will start at 12.30.  Perhaps you could bring some Christmas treats? It would also add to the fun of the day if your child could wear something Christmassy, such as a Santa hat, reindeer ears, tinsel etc..                                     
                                                                                                                                         
Of course participation is voluntary.  Please let me know if you do not wish your child to participate as soon as possible.

Te Reo Maori and Art Collaboration

As part of our Te Reo Maori this term, we will be looking at the traditional myths and legends from the Maori culture. We began with 'The Fish of Maui'. We thought it would be a great idea to work collaboratively to create a 'shared book' of this myth. These photos show us working together on the sketching of a scene from the story. When this is complete, we will vivid our sketches and use dye to add colour. We will then publish our section of the myth and display in the classroom. I can't wait to see the final product!

Welcome to Term 3

Hello and welcome to Term 3 everyone!  I really hope you had a wonderful break over the holidays and were able to relax and connect with family and friends. As always, Term 3 will be as action packed as our other terms and we can;t wait to get on with our term 3 learning journey. Inquiry this term has a focus on culture and heritage. We will have a lot of fun investigating where we come from and what it means to belong to a diverse range of cultures. In Reading, we will initially be focusing on a range of persuasive texts - identifying features and content that makes a piece of writing persuasive. We will also look at drawing our own conclusions and reflecting on what impact we have on a variety of issues and what action we could take to make our world a better place to live in. Maths Mapping Adventure

This past week and a half we have been looking at maps. We have been learning about compass directions, scales and coordinates. The best part of our learning was putting all our new knowledge into creating our own magical land map. We had to think of a variety of 'lands' and place them accurately on our map. We then identified coordinates for those 'lands'. Each land was designated a certain amount of points. Our goal was to create a path and collect as many points as we could in a certain amount of moves. Once our map and path was completed we got to swap it with a buddy and challenge them to beat their score. These photos below show us working together on our maps.
